RIP, Tommy Ramone.

When I saw the news Saturday morning, I knew that our blog had to say something about it. We are all about the rock and roll, and if you’re a fan of rock from the past forty years or so, you’re about the Ramones somehow. I edited together some bits from our contributors, who wanted to speak on the subject:

Bunche, who gave us Devo, eulogizes Tommy.

Elwood D. Pennypacker, who gave us The Ramones and The Replacements authored this podcast tribute.

Seth weighs in here.

I was just about to put the phone down when I saw the news Friday night. Thomas Erdelyi was the backbone for what was arguably the greatest rock ‘n’ roll band in history. They were the power-washer that wiped the slate clean and wrote new rules. The amazing thing, to me, is how varied Tommy’s talents were. He was an engineer on Hendrix’s “Band Of Gypsys” record. He co-produced The Ramones first four albums. He produced the acclaimed Replacements album “Tim”. He played bluegrass in a band called Uncle Monk and worked with the best – Garth Hudson (of The Band) included. He had it together. An artist worth looking up to. And a helluva way with words: “Hey! Ho! Let’s Go!”
